Bible Verse: Genesis 18:14
Is anything too hard for the Lord? I will return to you at the appointed time next year, and Sarah will have a son.
In the book of Genesis, we witness the journey of a woman who struggled with impatience and a desire for control to someone who ultimately surrendered to God’s timing. Sarah, the wife of Abraham, faced infertility and her longing for a child led her to take matters into her own hands. She decided to give her Egyptian maidservant, Hagar, to Abraham as a concubine to bear a child on Sarah’s behalf. This decision to control the situation and ensure the continuation of Abraham’s lineage was a reflection of her impatience. Her attempt to exercise control in this way resulted in family tension and complications, illustrating the consequences of trying to manipulate circumstances rather than relying on God’s plan and timing. However, when God visited Abraham and Sarah and promised them a child in their old age, Sarah laughed in disbelief. God responded, “Is anything too hard for the Lord? At the appointed time I will return to you, about this time next year, and Sarah shall have a son.” This encounter marked a turning point in Sarah’s life. She learned to trust God’s promise and His timing, and the following year, in her old age, she gave birth to Isaac, just as God had foretold.
The Lesson: Sarah’s journey reminds us that in our own lives, when faced with challenges and unfulfilled desires, our attempts to control and manipulate situations often lead to complications and strife. Instead, we should strive to develop patience and trust in God’s timing. Sarah’s story emphasizes the importance of surrendering our desires and plans to God, knowing that His promises will be fulfilled in His own time, which is always perfect. By learning to let go of control and embrace patience in our faith journey, we can experience the profound blessings that come when we align our lives with God’s divine plan.
