Verse of the Day: Luke 2:4-6
Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David, in order to register along with Mary, who was engaged to him, and was with child. While they were there, the days were completed for her to give birth.
The birth of Jesus in Bethlehem fulfilled the prophecy in Micah 5:2: “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.” Bethlehem, a small city in Judah near Jerusalem, was rich in significance. It was the birthplace of King David, and Jesus, a descendant of David whose lineage traces all the way back to Adam, was also born there.
From the beginning of His life to the end, Jesus was referred to as the King of the Jews. It is no coincidence that Bethlehem’s name means “”The House of Bread,”” as Jesus Himself is the Bread of Life.
Every detail of Jesus’ birth, including being born in Bethlehem, was an intentional part of God’s divine plan for our salvation. Nothing about it was accidental. It was all perfectly orchestrated to reveal God’s love, faithfulness, and for the redemption and reconciliation of humanity.
