Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

Even David, a man after God’s own heart, fell into sin, but he understood something vital, real change starts in the heart and only God can bring that kind of transformation. Praise God for His mercy that never runs out and His love that reaches even the most broken places within us.

Jesus reminds us that the heart is the source of our thoughts and actions, both good and bad. “For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander”(Matthew 15:19). No matter how hard we try on our own, any change we make apart from God will never last.

Worship the Lord by surrendering your heart completely to Him. Only He can take a heart of stone and make it new. Only He can breathe new life into your spirit. If you’re longing for real, lasting transformation, go to the One who created your heart and ask Him to renew it, reshape it, and make it more like His. He is faithful, and He will do it.
